RGV Roll-Off Guide

Commercial dumpster rental in the Rio Grande Valley: what to know

Whether you're a general contractor managing a multi-phase build, a roofing company running parallel crews, a property manager rotating turnovers, or a national broker placing volume in the RGV — here's a working guide to commercial roll-off service in deep South Texas.

Roll-off container sizes and where they fit

Commercial roll-off dumpsters in the Rio Grande Valley generally fall into five sizes. The 5-yard concrete washout dumpster is purpose-built for ready-mix returns, masonry rinse, drywall mud, and other dense or wet materials that exceed safe load limits in larger containers. The 10-yard roll-off is the right pick for tight urban sites, single-trade demos, and bathroom or kitchen turnouts where space is limited but volume is meaningful. The 15-yard container is a workhorse for multi-room remodels, light commercial cleanouts, deck and fence tear-offs, and small roofing jobs. The 20-yard roll-off handles full home demos, larger roof tear-offs (typically up to 30 squares of three-tab or 25 squares of architectural shingles), and ongoing C&D from active construction. The 25-yard container — our largest — is sized for new construction debris, structural demolitions, estate-scale cleanouts, and commercial property turnovers.

What goes in (and what doesn't)

Most C&D and commercial waste streams are accepted: wood framing and trim, drywall, flooring, tile, cabinets, fixtures, shingles and underlayment, brick and masonry (in appropriate sizes), metal, packaging, produce and bulk food waste, and general non-hazardous job-site debris. Concrete-only and dirt-only loads route to the 5-yard washout because of weight limits on larger containers and transport vehicles. Tires are accepted but incur an additional per-tire landfill fee — call (956) 703-5995 for a quote before loading. Items strictly NOT allowed in any container include all liquids (paints, solvents, oil, gasoline, pesticides, chemicals, sewage — the only liquid we handle is concrete washout in our 5-yard washout container), lead-acid batteries, refrigerators and freezers with freon still installed, asbestos-containing materials, medical waste, and explosives. If a load has questionable items, your foreman should flag it before swap so we can route to the right disposal facility.

Pricing, weight allowances, and tonnage overages

Commercial dumpster pricing in the RGV is typically built from four parts: base haul (delivery and pickup), rental period (standard 7 days, extensions billed per day), included weight allowance (typically 1–4 tons depending on size), and any tonnage overage at the disposal facility's per-ton rate. Heavy-material loads — concrete, dirt, brick, tile, and roofing — fill tonnage allowances much faster than mixed construction debris, which is why most commercial jobs save by isolating heavy materials into the 5-yard washout and keeping mixed C&D in the larger containers. For accounts placing volume, we publish flat per-pull pricing that simplifies forecasting and reduces invoice surprises.

Permits, placement, and right-of-way

On private commercial property — parking lots, lay-down yards, construction staging areas, and managed industrial sites — no permit is required. When a container needs to occupy a public right-of-way (a city street, a sidewalk, or a public alley), the local municipality usually requires a temporary placement permit. Permit rules and fees vary across RGV cities — McAllen, Pharr, Edinburg, Mission, Brownsville, Harlingen, and others each maintain their own ordinances. If your placement is on the street side, let our dispatch know when booking and we'll advise on the local permit path. Standard placement footprint is roughly 10 feet wide by 60 feet long with about 22 feet of overhead clearance for the truck.

Service for brokers and out-of-area GCs

Brokers placing volume in the Rio Grande Valley get dedicated dispatch, consolidated invoicing across multiple job sites, COI issued per-project, and consistent service standards across both our Pharr and Brownsville hubs. National GCs operating out of state get a single point of contact for the entire RGV market — Hidalgo and Cameron counties under one account. We're set up to handle the documentation requirements that come with commercial work: certificates of insurance, W-9 packages, vendor onboarding paperwork, and project-specific waste tracking when required.

Active job sites and recurring service

For builds that run weeks or months, a monthly-rental container with scheduled swap-outs usually beats serial short-term rentals on price and on logistics. Recurring service works well for roofing companies running parallel crews across the Valley, demolition contractors moving between phases, multi-family property managers rotating turnover units, and large landscaping or land-clearing operations. Recurring accounts can request standing swap windows so dispatch has predictable capacity for your job sites.

Service area: full RGV coverage

From our hubs in Pharr (Hidalgo County) and Brownsville (Cameron County), we serve the entire Rio Grande Valley: McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, San Juan, Alamo, Donna, Weslaco, Mercedes, Hidalgo, Palmview, Sullivan City, Rio Grande City, La Joya, Harlingen, San Benito, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, South Padre Island, La Feria, Combes, Rio Hondo, and Olmito. Most addresses inside the standard zone get same- or next-day site service. Job sites outside the standard delivery zone — outer Starr County, Willacy County, and points north — are still serviceable on a scheduled basis with a small delivery surcharge.
